Count of states whose unemployment crossed the Sahm trigger — experimental regional nowcast.
An experimental regional nowcast: counting how many individual states have crossed their own Sahm-rule trigger. Recessions rarely start uniformly — state-level diffusion can reveal a downturn broadening before the national rate trips, at the cost of noisier signals.
